An amber heat-health alert has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency for our area, with high temperatures expected over the coming days.
While anyone can become unwell in hot weather, older people, young children and those with long-term health conditions are at greater risk.
The NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board is encouraging everyone to take simple steps to stay safe, including:
- Keeping your home cool by closing curtains and windows in rooms that face the sun.
- Drinking plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
- Avoiding the hottest part of the day (11am to 3pm) where possible.
- Wearing suitable clothing, including a hat and sunglasses, and using sunscreen if you’re outdoors.
- Looking out for neighbours, friends and relatives who may need extra support.
It’s also important to recognise the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and know when to seek medical advice.
