The Chequers Endodontic Practice, a specialist dental practice based in Great Missenden, has been inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The CQC visited the private practice in July 2023 to ensure it was meeting all legal requirements and working in line with regulations.

Five key questions

The CQC usually asks five key questions in order to assess whether a service is working well.

These are:

  • Is the service safe?
  • Is it effective?
  • Is it caring?
  • Is it responsive to people’s needs?
  • Is it well led?

What inspectors found

The CQC reported that no action was required in any of the five key areas inspectors assessed.

They found that:

  • The clinic appeared clean and well maintained.
  • Staff knew how to deal with medical emergencies.
  • The practice had systems for managing risks for patients, staff, equipment and the premises.
  • Safeguarding processes were in place and staff understood their responsibilities for safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.
  • The practice had staff recruitment procedures that reflected current legislation.
  • Clinical staff provided patients’ care and treatment in line with current guidelines.
  • Patients were treated with dignity and respect.
  • Staff took care to protect patients’ privacy and personal information.
  • Staff provided preventative care and supported patients to ensure better oral health.
  • The appointment system worked effectively to respond to patients’ needs.
  • The practice was led effectively and there was a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Staff felt involved, supported and worked as a team.
  • Complaints were dealt with positively and efficiently.
  • The practice had information governance arrangements.

Inspectors also found minor shortfalls in appropriately assessing and mitigating risks in relation to fire safety, infection control and the storage of substances hazardous to health. The practice was advised to address these.
