Lace Hill Manor Care Home in Buckingham has received a rating of ‘requires improvement’ following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Lace Hill, based in Buckingham, is a residential care home that provides personal and nursing care for up to 62 people. At the time of the inspection, 23 people were living at the home. Each person had their own room with en-suite facilities within the purpose-built building, which also has facilities including a cinema room, hairdressing salon and cafe.

Five key questions

The CQC rates providers of care against five key questions. These are:

  • Is the service safe?
  • Is it effective?
  • Is it caring?
  • Is it responsive to people’s needs?
  • Is the service well led?

Lace Hill Manor was rated ‘good’ for safety, effectiveness and caring. However, it was rated ‘requires improvement’ for responsiveness and leadership, and therefore received a rating of ‘requires improvement’ overall.

Recommendations

Inspectors identified a breach in relation to the governance of the service. They made recommendations regarding:

  • Recruitment records
  • Improving fire drills
  • Assessing the suitability of the environment for people with dementia
  • Care planning.
