Healthwatch Bucks turns 10 years old this week. During the past decade, we’ve heard thousands of stories from people in our community about health and social care – feedback that’s helped us make a difference to how local services are run.

To mark this special birthday, we want to celebrate the work we’ve done, the people who have helped us make a difference and the impact we’ve had on local health and social care.

Introducing Barry Clarke, OBE

Barry Clarke is a Healthwatch Hero and longstanding volunteer at Healthwatch Bucks.

Formerly Chair of Save The Children UK, Barry has lived in Farnham Common for 40 years. He has served as Vice-Chair of Community Impact Bucks and Healthwatch Bucks, and still works as a strategic consultant for non-profit organisations that focus on social and environmental sustainability.

Here, Barry explains his committed and continuing support for Healthwatch Bucks.

I’m a volunteer for Healthwatch Bucks because it enables me to use my experience in business and the voluntary sector, putting it to good use in improving health and social care. After a working life in marketing and communications, and my service as a founder director of Community Impact Bucks and Healthwatch Bucks, I now support Healthwatch and other local organisations when they need help in strategic planning, governance and communications.

Over the past two years, I have helped the leaders plan the future of Healthwatch and support their work in explaining what this organisation does to help improve health and social care in our county. I give a little of my time and, in return, I feel the satisfaction of making a small difference while always learning something new.

Help us make a difference

The whole team at Healthwatch Bucks thanks Barry for his generous support. We look forward to working with him throughout 2023-24 and beyond.

As a volunteer-led organisation, we value the contributions of local people who help to make sure our work is as effective and impactful as possible.
