Kare Plus Windsor Homecare has been rated ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection in February 2023.

Kare Plus Windsor provides personal care services to people living in Windsor and the surrounding area. At the time of the inspection, the service was working with six people.

The CQC only inspects services where people receive personal care, which can include support with eating, drinking and hygiene. Just one person with a learning disability / autism was receiving personal care from Kare Pus Windsor in February 2023.

However, the CQC chose to inspect the provider in line with the ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidelines that are used to make judgements about services that support people with learning disabilities. Kare Plus Windsor is registered as a specialist service for this group.

What inspectors found

The CQC assesses providers of social care in line with five key questions.

These allow it to assess whether a service is

  • Safe
  • Effective
  • Caring
  • Responsive
  • Well led.

Kare Plus Windsor was rated ‘good’ in all areas and so achieved an overall rating of ‘good’.

Right support, right care, right culture

Inspectors also found the following, in respect of the ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidelines.

  • Right support: Staff received all the training they needed to meet people’s needs. Management were able to oversee the safety and quality of the service because effective systems and processes for doing so were in place. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives, and staff supported them in the least restrictive ways possible and in their best interests.
  • Right care: People were cared for in a way that maximised their choice, control and independence. Care was person-centred and promoted people’s dignity, privacy and human rights. Care plans reflected the principles of ‘right support, right care, right culture’. People were supported by staff who knew them well, risks were effectively managed and people had access to healthcare professionals. Medicines were managed safely, people felt safe with the service’s staff and appropriate checks were made during the recruitment of new members of the team.
  • Right culture: The ethos, values, attitudes and behaviours of leaders and care staff ensured that people using the service led confident, inclusive and empowered lives. Staff spoke positively about the support they received from the management team. People were involved in decision-making, and their views on how to improve the service were welcomed.
