Cheriton Care Home, a residential care home in Amersham, has been rated ‘requires improvement’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The care home provides support for older people, including people with dementia, mental health conditions, physical disabilities and sensory impairments. 15 people were using the service at the time of the inspection.

Key questions

The CQC assesses providers in line with five key criteria. These help inspectors to decide whether a service is:

  • Safe
  • Effective
  • Caring
  • Responsive
  • Well led.

The last rating for Cheriton Care Home, awarded in May 2022, was ‘inadequate’. At this time, inspectors found the provider was in breach of regulations. The CQC required that it put an action plan in place to drive improvements.

After its 2023 inspection, the CQC found that improvements had been made. However, some regulations were still not being followed.

Cheriton Care Home was rated ‘good’ against the key question of whether it was effective. However, it was rated ‘requires improvement’ in all other areas, and was therefore rated ‘requires improvement’ overall.

The CQC’s full report can be found on its website.
