Utmostcare Limited, a provider of domiciliary care based in Buckinghamshire, has been rated ‘requires improvement’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The service offers personal care for people with eating disorders, dementia, mental health conditions, learning and physical disabilities and substance misuse problems.

Utmostcare Limited was inspected in September 2022 and assessed in line with five key questions, which aim to establish whether the care it offers people is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. While it achieved a rating of ‘good’ in the caring category, it received ‘requires improvement’ in all other areas. It was therefore rated ‘requires improvement’ overall.

Action required

The CQC has told Utmostcare Limited that it must take action before its next inspection.

Inspectors found that risks to people were not clearly identified or management. Risk assessments were either not completed or lacked sufficient detail to help staff understand how they should respond to risks.

The service had not ensured the proper and safe management of medicines. Nor was it keeping proper records about the administration of medicines. The CQC also said systems for controlling infections were not operating effectively. All of these issues must be addressed in line with regulations.

The CQC also reported that governance at Utmostcare Limited should be reviewed. According to inspectors, existing systems do not effectively assess, monitor or improve the service to ensure compliance with regulations.

The CQC’s full report on Utmostcare Limited is available on its website.
