At the start of the pandemic, Bucks Mind was overwhelmed with volunteers. However, this has sadly dropped off as life has returned to a new normal.

Volunteers are crucial to the running of the services. In particular, the befriending service. This has a large number of new referrals that they are currently unable to support.

Befriending at Bucks Mind involves meeting or calling and supporting someone once a week for around 6 months. Bucks Mind is a mental health charity so the clients will usually have some anxiety and low mood and possibly other challenges too. Befriending is about providing boundaries and support. You will start a short term relationship to build confidence and self-esteem and also reduce isolation. But it may just be about having a chat and a cup of tea!

Bucks Mind works with anyone over 18 years and tries to use the volunteer’s skills and experience to benefit the service user.

If you would like to apply, please fill in the application form below and Bucks Mind will contact you to discuss the next steps. This will include the first meeting to get to know you, completion of a DBS and a request for references. They then book you on to a training session.

This will be followed up with another meeting to check-in and ensure you feel comfortable and confident to volunteer with them.

They offer regular training and development sessions and ongoing support if volunteers need it. They recognise that the volunteers’ mental health is as important as the mental health of the people they support and they are here for everyone.
