Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has opened a new diagnostics centre at Amersham Hospital.

The centre will enable the Trust to offer more appointments and tests, such as X-rays, ultrasounds and blood tests. This will reduce waiting times and make it easier for the local community to access these services closer to home.

In the future, the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) will offer tests and examinations. These will be for patients referred for investigation of heart and respiratory problems.

It is one of three CDCs across the wider region encompassing West Berkshire and Oxfordshire. This will provide a much-needed increase in diagnostic services.

Andrew McLaren, Chief Medical Officer at the Trust, said:

We’re essentially providing an easier and quicker way to access a range of quality diagnostic services in one place. Earlier, faster and more accurate diagnoses of health conditions will benefit our patients. It will help us improve the health of our local community.

I was referred here. When I phoned to make the appointment I was told that the number was no longer in use and I had to phone cardiology at Wycombe. When I contacted them I was told that I would be given a telephone appointment in three weeks. Not what I was expecting!
