Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions account for 30 per cent of GP consultations in England. We wanted to find out about the experiences of patients experiencing musculoskeletal concerns. We know providers and commissioners within Buckinghamshire are coming together to transform MSK services. To bring the patient voice to this we did two things.

In September we did an Enter and View on the First Contact Practitioner pilot. Two GP surgeries in Buckinghamshire piloted the First Contact Practitioner service. This meant that rather than seeing their GP, patients could book to see a Physiotherapist at their GP surgery. The response from patients about their experience was positive and the providers found our recommendations useful in the development of this service.

In October, we ran an online survey asking people about their experience of the NHS Buckinghamshire Musculoskeletal Integrated Care Service (MusIC). We developed the survey with the provider of the service, Care UK. We wanted to know about the patients’ journey from their GP to an MSK professional.
