This month we joined PPGs from the three PCNs in the Aylesbury area when they met with PCN teams. Five PPGs (out of seven) were represented, with at least one from each PCN.
We were also invited to an event where the Arc Bucks PCN met with its PPGs. There was a great turn out, with members from five of the six PPGs there to meet the PCN team. The meetings were a great opportunity to chat with other PPG members and share ideas. The sessions, facilitated by Ojalae Jenkins from Bucks CCG, focused on how PPGs could work with the PCNs. There were some good discussions about how PPGs could reach out to others in their community. One suggestion was that PPGs could visit groups, such as care homes, social groups or sports clubs to hear views from a wider range of people in their local area.
We also heard views from some young carers at the Aylesbury meeting. Those at the Aylesbury meeting agreed a number of next steps. These were to: commit to an annual event for patients and PPGs; share data that is in a meaningful way for patients to understand; utilise the support out there (Healthwatch Bucks and CCG etc.) and link PCN PPG groups together.
At the Arc Bucks PCN meeting Chris Purves (chair of Rectory Meadow PPG) explained how the PPGs in the Mid-Chiltern PCN had got together and developed terms of reference for their group. As well as meeting regularly they have agreed with the Clinical Directors that one Chair will attend the monthly PCN meetings and report back. If you’re in a PPG that’s already working with their PCN please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
