Time to Change is a national movement run by Rethink Mental Illness and National Mind that is committed to ending mental health stigma and discrimination.
Part of their strategy is to embed Time to Change as a social movement in local communities by creating a network of Time to Change hubs across the country. The great news is that Bucks has just been approved by Time to Change to set up as a local hub. The key partners in the Bucks hub will be the Health and Wellbeing Board, Bucks Mind and Bucks County Council.
As a Time to Change hub, Bucks is now working to
- Put people with personal experience of mental health problems at the heart of their work
- Embed anti-stigma and discrimination work locally, whether in local schools, workplaces or other community settings
- Proactively campaign to improve people’s attitudes and behaviours towards mental health.
Time to Change Champions
To support the work of the Hub, the Bucks hub is looking for people who want to sign up as Time To Change Champions. These are people across the country who use their own experience of mental health problems to change the way we all think and act about mental health. When people talk to each other and establish common ground, prejudices and assumptions are often challenged and replaced with mutual understanding and respect. This can lead to changes in attitudes and behaviours, and the Time to Change campaign is proving that this is an incredibly effective way to reduce stigma and discrimination.
Time to Change Employers Pledge
The Bucks hub is also interested to hear from Bucks employers of any size who would like to take the Time to Change Employers Pledge to tackle mental health stigma in the workplace. With over 700 employers in England already signed up the pledge, there’s lots of support available to help employers demonstrate a commitment to change how we think and act about mental health in the workplace.
