We started our Pop-in Café for the community in November. It came about because we felt, as a PPG, we wanted to support people in our local community.
We ran the idea past our GP representative on the PPG and our Practice Manager who agreed with us and gave the go ahead to trial the Café for 6 months.
Our next step was to engage the +75 members of our PPG team to talk to patients about what we were doing. We then made sure our GPs and nurses have all the dates of the Pop-in Café on their doors so patients know when it’s happening.
From there, the Pop-in Café really took off. We do various things at the café such as rock painting and quizzes. We also have one lady who is going to teach us all how to knit.
All in all, we’re really pleased with our café. We all enjoy a drink and some cake. The staff are also encouraged to pop in too as we want to take away the “fear” some people have about visiting their GP. We want to get away from the idea that going to the surgery is only about getting bad news.
We’ve had a positive response and we have seen the group grow from 4 people at the first event to around 20 people at our most recent one.
